Meaningful Connections
OPPORTUNITY
Tenderloin residents are economically disadvantaged and under-resourced. For those living on the streets and even for those housed in one of the many low-income SRO buildings, accessing basic needs like organic meals, dental care, social impact and even community are a daily uncertainty.
As one of the top 10 technology hubs in the world, San Francisco boasts innovation, creativity, self-expression, and even genius. But below the 60 story beacons of progress sits the city’s 8,000 homeless. Take a stroll down Market street and you will see hundreds of high-end retail stores neighboring the poorest neighborhood in the city, The Tenderloin.
Nearly 50% of San Francisco’s homeless population exists within the boundaries of District 6, which includes the Tenderloin. Just 50 square blocks, the Tenderloin neighborhood is home to over 28,000 residents, with nearly 1 out of every 3 residents living dangerously below the poverty line.
SERVICES
There are hundreds of SRO Residential Hotels in the city of San Francisco, which are home to over 30,000 residents. Residents are often paying the majority of their monthly income towards rent which leaves a very small margin for food and other necessities.
With 16,000 people at the highest risk of food insecurity in District 6, our Adopt A Building program meets the basic needs of over 11,000 residents by providing meals and weekly visitations to 20 SRO buildings every month.
We provide quality dental services on weekdays as our complimentary services to them. We know the pain and long process to get their teeth fixed.
We make it easy for our patients to get the best dental treatment without extensive paperwork.
Before and after every visit our dentist takes this opportunity to evangelize and pray with the patients in the process.
Tenderloin is a community of highly motivated individuals seeking meaningful necessities & services provided by the various agencies.
We at SF City Impact have been able to provide high-quality products and brand-new clothing to them at no cost.
They are grateful and confident knowing we are here to serve them with our daily donations from the bay area.
We aim to give them dignity and respect. God has placed us to serve them with His Provision! We want to give them the best service possible.
Healthy Meal
Balanced meals are prepared and served twice a day at our Hospitality program where residents have a chance to also hear a gospel message. These sit-down meals create opportunities for residents to make meaningful connections and become part of a caring community.
Access to organic meals helps abolish barriers to food security, eliminating tough decisions the Tenderloin community must make each day to simply survive. This enables them to get connected to resources, receive community support, and break out of the cycles of poverty.
Meals and groceries are delivered door-to-door in SROs each week for residents who are unable to attend our daily Hospitality program (like the elderly or disabled), allowing for additional opportunities to provide access and awareness to other helpful programs and resources.
For residents who are often overlooked or forgotten, meal deliveries serve as a reminder that there is a supportive community eager to help them through their daily challenges and meet their basic needs.
A daily grocery pantry is open each afternoon with varying selections of fruit, vegetables, eggs, and other donated items. In addition, families from the community can sign up to receive nutritious produce daily.
For individuals facing homelessness, job loss, and economic insecurity, consistent access to fresh produce provides immediate relief to help residents get back on their feet. For families in need they have access to fresh produce and can now enjoy during meal time!
OPPORTUNITY
“Food insecurity — a government term for lacking access to enough good, healthy and culturally appropriate food — has more than doubled statewide and more than tripled in some Bay Area counties. In San Francisco, for instance, 18.7% of households struggled to get enough to eat in April and May, up from 5.7% in December 2018, according to the Institute for Policy Research at Northwestern University.”
“Food insecurity also has a negative impact on the cognitive development of a child, ultimately impairing his or her productivity and economic potential… Data shows that hungry children are “four times more likely to need mental health counseling; seven times more likely to be classified as clinically dysfunctional; seven times more likely to get into fights frequently; and twelve times more likely to steal.”
SERVICES
Serving over 200 meals and groceries a day and visiting nearly 30 buildings each week, we remain committed to addressing hunger head-on while also providing opportunities for spiritual fulfillment, community engagement and awareness of resources. Through our personal and practical approach to hunger, many individuals have experienced life-changing transformation in the midst of substantial challenges.
Our program seeks to feed the Tenderloin neighborhood through 3 main avenues:
Reaching One Family at-a-time
OPPORTUNITY
In a survey of homeless youth, “youth reported that their greatest service needs were basic needs and health needs: food (59%), clothing (46%), shelter/housing (41%), dental care (36%), and health care (35%)”
“Approximately 38% of households with children in San Francisco are living below the Self-Sufficiency Standard (SSS), a benchmark that measures the minimal level of income needed to support very basic household needs without public or private assistance.” *2016 statistics

The Child Development Center supports families in the Tenderloin by partnering with the San Francisco Unified School District to provide diagnostic testing for students with special needs. We help connect these students to specialists who develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and offer on-site, volunteer-led learning opportunities to support academic success.
In addition, we offer practical workshops for adults that provide both emotional and tangible support to working families in the Tenderloin. These workshops cover important topics, helping participants build confidence and resilience to better support their families.
We provide comprehensive health care services, including medical, dental, and vision care, to children in our sponsorship program, along with hygiene kits for their basic needs. UOP dental students visit annually to educate our students on oral health care, and through our Hospitality Hub, we offer complimentary braces for lasting smiles. Additionally, we conduct vision screenings to ensure children receive glasses for success.
The Child Development Center provides a safe place for children in the Tenderloin to learn, explore, and grow spiritually. Our goal is to ensure every child has access to mentorship, and community support needed to overcome their circumstances and become leaders in their community.
Through the Child Development Center, we offer one-on-one mentorship, academic and spiritual summer programs and camps, and weekend events for community enrichment. The Child Development Center is committed to providing each child with practical resources for their personal growth while welcoming them into a supportive and safe community.
We offer families access to a variety of resources, including organic groceries, freshly prepared meals, clothing, diapers, jackets, and shoes. This support not only addresses their immediate needs but also empowers them, leaving them feeling blessed and boosting their confidence as they navigate life's challenges.
