FAQs

    • Lodging: Most groups will sleep on bunk beds. Teams must bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

    • Showers: We have several available showers on-site. For larger groups (over 100 members) we arrange for showers off-site at the Salvation Army.

    • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during your stay. However, dinner is not served on Saturday or Sunday.

  • There is NO onsite parking available. You can unload your vehicle at our headquarters at 136 Taylor St. and then park your vehicle at a nearby lot. Please be prepared to pay for parking for the duration of your trip.

  • When you arrive at SFO, you will take BART (www.bart.gov) from the airport to Powell St. station. A staff member will meet you at Powell St. station and walk you to our headquarters.

  • Participants must be at least 12 years of age or older. Please contact us if you have a special circumstance. We expect your leaders to monitor the behavior of your team members at all times.

    • Clothes: Modest dress is encouraged at all times to not draw unnecessary attention in the community. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are recommended. Please avoid wearing low-cut shirts or expensive items. San Francisco is usually between 60 and 70 degrees, often getting chilly at night, even in the summer.

    • Bedding: Sleeping bags and pillows.

      a. Groups that fly in will often order sleeping bags and pillows and have them shipped here ahead of time. Please let us know if you would like to arrange for this.

    • Hygiene items: (toiletries, towels, etc.) We suggest bringing your swimsuit for showering if using offsite showers.

    • Bible, pen, and paper

    • Read Chasing God. Written by the founder of SF City Impact, Chasing God details the miraculous history of this ministry and offers context and key insights on serving the Tenderloin community.

    • Help your team understand poverty in inner-city communities. The circumstances of individuals experiencing severe poverty and homelessness vary from person to person and often include a history of abuse, neglect, broken families, and mental health struggles. It is easy to make quick judgements about these communities, but we encourage teams to grow in their understanding of poverty by listening to the stories of these individuals and recognizing the need we all share for a Savior.

    • Train your team on how to share the Gospel and pray with people. At SF City Impact, your team will encounter many opportunities to pray with residents and help residents understand the Gospel. Practicing the basic skills of asking questions, finding a point of connection, and sharing Biblical truth before your arrival will set your team up for success.

    • Emphasize the importance of service and humility. A strong understanding of these crucial aspects of ministry will help teams effectively serve in love, both in respect to their willingness to serve (in all the forms in which it may come), as well as in interacting with residents with compassionate and humble hearts.

  • We have designed mission trips here to inspire, encourage, and equip team members to embody a heart of service wherever they go. We believe mission trips are not just for the people and places with obvious needs, like the Tenderloin, but that the skills you learn here can also be applied to your own communities.
