ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

OVERVIEW

SF City Impact exists to intervene on behalf of the people in the inner-city of San Francisco. The Development Department is responsible for fundraising and building connections that lead to the future success of the organization.


ROLE SUMMARY

This position is a good fit for a driven person with mid-to high-level experience who is willing to wear multiple hats and take initiative to continue to build out the fundraising program. The job includes designing and implementing fundraising strategies and tactics, developing and managing donor relationships through the donor lifecycle, multi-channel fundraising, developing collateral material, speaking in public to create awareness, planning and hosting fundraising events, and creating analysis reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES

FUNDRAISING:

  • Help develop an annual fundraising plan and fundraising budget.

  • Develop and implement strategies and tactics for a variety of funding channels to raise money from donors, corporations, foundations, and local government.

  • Manage all stages of the donor lifecycle for all types of donors and giving levels. This includes identifying, cultivating, soliciting, thanking, and stewarding donors and prospects.

  • Manage fundraising activities including annual giving, individual and corporate gifts, special events, and special solicitation projects.

  • Develop fundraising policies, systems, and standard operating procedures.

  • Help with grant writing and reporting when needed.

  • Ensure all donor accounts in CRM are updated and maintained with accurate contact information, activities are tracked, and accounts coded correctly.

  • Manage donor database and create donor profiles.

  • Manage acknowledgment and receipting process.

MARKETING / COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Act as spokesperson for the organization, promoting the organization through public speaking and event appearances throughout the community.

  • Work with marketing personnel to design major solicitation and outreach material targeted to donors.

  • Collaborate with web designers to ensure collateral and websites include donor-focused content.

  • Create all types of correspondence and fundraising-related collateral (print and electronic). Assist with the development of annual impact reports and any fundraising campaigns. Liaison with marketing/communications and events teams to ensure development stewardship and donor relations needs are met.

  • Assist with the creation, strategy, and execution of fundraising-related special events.

ADMINISTRATION:

  • Create office systems and standard operating procedures to support all development projects and operations.

  • Use donor database software to create and manage donor profiles, track donations and giving patterns, and generate lists for campaigns.

  • Create and manage reminder, thank-you, and recognition programs.

  • Oversee donor and gift recordkeeping in our CRM database.

  • Coordinate donor-based research activities.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance. Requirements and Qualifications Noted experience building and/or managing a fundraising program.

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of fundraising.

  • Knowledge of the donor lifecycle and how to manage a donor through it.

  • Working in an organization where systems and responsibilities constantly evolve.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines to achieve goals.

  • Thorough, organized, creative, and detail-oriented approach to work.

  • Computer skills: Exceptional skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (or equivalent).

  • Experience with some type of donor management software or CRM software.

  • Superior writing skills.

  • It’s imperative the candidate be an exceptional writer and be able to easily and quickly craft stories, and write compelling collateral based on proven tactics for writing copy that inspires donors and supporters and motivates them to take action.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work; ability to work unsupervised and make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively, and creatively.

  • Goal-oriented, persistent, and persuasive. Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree preferred but not required.

  • Minimum three years experience in the field of charitable fundraising.

  • Demonstrated success in building or managing a fundraising program.

  • Demonstrated success in writing and administering grants.

  • Demonstrated success in organizing special events.

  • Physical Requirements Sitting at a computer.
